# Consent-aware email tracking

> France and Italy require recipient consent for email open and click tracking. Introw applies it automatically, with no setup and full analytics elsewhere.

> Regulators in France and Italy now require recipient consent before email open and click tracking is used. Introw handles this for you automatically. There is nothing to configure, your partner emails keep flowing, and engagement analytics keep working everywhere they are allowed.

*Shipped in the July 2026 release.*

## What changed in France and Italy

The French (CNIL) and Italian (Garante) data protection authorities issued guidance requiring prior recipient consent before email open and click tracking is used. In practice: the tracking pixel that measures whether someone opened an email, and the measurement of which links they clicked, now need the recipient's consent in these countries, and responsibility sits with the sender.

If you send email at any scale, you have likely already heard about this from your marketing platform. For everything Introw sends on your behalf, we took care of it.

## How Introw keeps you covered

Introw now decides per recipient, at the moment of sending, whether engagement tracking may be used:

* **Recipients connected to France or Italy get tracking-free emails.** Introw uses the partner and contact data you already maintain, with your [CRM as the source of truth](/why/crm-native). A partner company based in France or Italy, a contact whose own CRM record places them there, or simply a `.fr` or `.it` email address: any of these means that recipient gets an email with no tracking in it at all. No open pixel, and every button and link points straight at its destination instead of through a measurement redirect: the email itself is verifiably clean, not just untracked on our side.
* **Location signals act as a safety net.** If an engagement event indicates a recipient is in one of these countries despite the data suggesting otherwise, Introw discards it rather than storing it.
* **Everyone else keeps full analytics.** Open and click engagement for the rest of your audience, from announcement performance to notification engagement, works exactly as before.
* **Delivery is never affected.** Every recipient receives the same emails with working links. Only the measurement is switched off where consent rules require it.

This is default behavior for every Introw workspace. You do not need to build segments, maintain country lists, or configure anything: the same posture an [enterprise-grade](/why/enterprise-grade) program would build by hand, on by default.

## What this means for your reporting

Engagement views such as announcement opens and clicks keep reporting for your full audience outside these countries. Recipients in France and Italy simply show no engagement data. That absence is deliberate: it is what compliance looks like in your reporting, not a delivery problem. See [Announcements](/features/engagement/announcements) and [Notifications](/features/engagement/notifications) for how engagement is surfaced.

## What you need to do

Nothing, for everything Introw sends. Two things are worth a moment of attention:

* **Keep countries accurate in your CRM.** The country on the partner company and on the contact is what drives the decision (in HubSpot the `Country/Region` property on both, in Salesforce `Billing Country` on the account and `Mailing Country` on the contact), so well-maintained records make the protection precise. Introw reads whichever is set, live, at the moment of sending.
* **Review your own sends.** Emails you send outside Introw, such as marketing campaigns from your CRM or marketing platform, are governed by that platform's tracking settings. Most vendors have published their own guidance on these requirements.
