# Collaborate with several partners on one deal

> Work a deal attributed to several partners, a reseller, a distributor and a referrer, with each partner's conversation, tasks, collaborators and commission in one dialog, and decide whether partners see and message each other.

A deal often carries more than one partner: a reseller who sells it, a distributor who fulfils it, a referral partner who brought it in.
Introw shows every one of them on the deal, and gives each partner its own conversation, tasks, collaborators and commission inside the same dialog.
Your team works all partners from one place, while each partner only ever sees what you allow.

## What you'll achieve

Your team sees every partner on a deal in the deal list, on the board and in the deal dialog, switches between their conversations without closing the deal, and sends one update to several partners at once.
Each partner gets its own copy of that update, which never names the other partners it went to.
If you choose, partners on the same deal can also see each other and message each other, with your team always included.

## Before you start

<Steps>
  <Step title="The deal is attributed to more than one partner">
    A deal shows several partners when several partner links point at it, typically through more than one attribution, such as **Reseller** and **Referral**. Set those up in [Configure deal attribution](./configure-deal-attribution). The name you give each attribution is the role your team reads on the deal.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Each partner has a portal">
    A partner without a portal still shows on the deal, but has nowhere to read a comment, so it cannot receive one.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Edit access to the experience (partner-to-partner only)">
    Your own team needs no setup. To let partners see or message each other, you need edit access to the experiences the partners on the deal use.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Steps

### Spot deals with several partners

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your deals">
    Go to [Deals overview](https://app.introw.io/overview/DEAL). Every deal lists all of its partners, so a multi-partner deal never reads as single-partner.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the partners in the table">
    The **Partner** column shows the deal's first partner, followed by **+N** for the others. Hover **+N** to see the other partners and their roles. The first partner follows the order of the attributions in your CRM integration, so the list, the board, the commission and the dialog all agree on it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the partners on the board">
    On the board, each card shows one line per attribution: the role on the left, as you named it in attribution (for example **Reseller** or **Distributor**), and the partner on the right. A partner holding two roles on the deal gets a line for each.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Filter to one partner when you work their deals">
    Filter the overview to one partner and that partner leads every row. Opening a deal from the filtered list opens it on that partner's conversation.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Work each partner's side of the deal

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the deal">
    Click the deal. It opens on one partner at a time: the first partner, or the partner you filtered to. The header shows that partner's name, and the conversation, the **Tasks** and the comment box all belong to that partner.
  </Step>

  <Step title="See everyone in Collaborators">
    The **Collaborators** panel lists your own team, then one card per partner on the deal, in the same order as the list. Each partner card shows its roles and its people. A partner without a portal reads **No portal yet**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Switch to another partner's conversation">
    Expand another partner's card and select **Open conversation**. The dialog stays open and switches its conversation, tasks and collaborators to that partner. People on another partner's card are read-only from here: add or remove them in that partner's own conversation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check each partner's commission">
    The **Commission** panel shows one block per partner, named after the partner. A partner whose links all have commission turned off gets no block. Each partner only ever sees its own commission.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Send one update to several partners

<Steps>
  <Step title="Pick who the comment goes to">
    Next to **Send**, the audience picker starts on the conversation you are in, for example **To Northwind**, so a note meant for one partner never reaches the others by accident. Open it to tick more partners, or use **Select all**. Your own team is always included and shows as `<your company> (Internal)`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the label before you send">
    The picker sums up the audience: **To everyone** for every partner on the deal, **To 2 of 3 partners** for a selection, or **Internal** when you untick every partner. An internal comment stays with your team and never goes to a partner.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Mention people on any picked partner">
    Type `@` and the list offers your teammates and the people of the partners the comment goes to. Each partner's copy keeps the mentions of its own people as real mentions, so they are notified. In the other partners' copies, the name shows as plain text, so nobody is subscribed to a partner they do not belong to. A mention of someone whose partner is not in the audience is dropped.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send">
    Select **Send**. Each picked partner gets its own copy in its own portal, which never names the other recipients. Each person is emailed once, and your internal Slack or Teams channel gets one post, not one per partner. Editing or deleting the comment changes every copy.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Let partners see and message each other

By default, partners on the same deal never see each other: each partner sees only your team and its own people, exactly as on a single-partner deal.
Two settings on the deal embed change that, and both are set per experience.
For a reseller and a distributor to see and message each other, turn on both settings in the reseller's experience and in the distributor's.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the deal embed's configuration">
    Go to [partner experiences](https://app.introw.io/templates), open the experience, go to the tab with the deals list, and open its configuration. On the **Configuration** tab, scroll to **Multi-partner deals** (the heading uses the name of the list's object, so it can read **Multi-partner opportunities**). The section only appears on an embed whose object type has partner attribution.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn on Show other collaborating partners">
    Tick **Show other collaborating partners**. Partners then see the other partners on the same deal, and their collaborators, in **Collaborators**: name, logo and people, never their roles, their portal or their commission.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn on Allow cross-partner communication if you want it">
    Tick **Allow cross-partner communication** to let partners send one comment to other partners on the deal. Your team is always included. It needs **Show other collaborating partners**: it stays greyed out while that is off, and turning that off clears it.
    This setting governs the partners who send, not the ones who receive. If only the reseller's experience has it on, the reseller can write to the distributor, but the distributor cannot write back.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save, publish, and repeat for every experience on the deal">
    Save the configuration and publish the experience. If the partners on the deal use different experiences, for example one for resellers and one for distributors, repeat both settings in each one.

    * **Show other collaborating partners** must be on in every partner's experience. If one partner has it off, or has no portal or no deal embed, no partner on the deal sees the others.
    * **Allow cross-partner communication** must be on in the experience of every partner who should be able to write. Turn it on in all of them for a two-way conversation.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What partners see

* **Both settings off (the default).** Nothing changes for partners: they see your team and their own people, and their comments go to your team and their own side.
* **Show other collaborating partners on.** In **Collaborators**, a partner sees a card for each other partner on the deal, with that partner's people. Their own card reads **You** and yours reads **Vendor**. They never see another partner's roles or commission. The settings footer says it plainly: "Partners will never see commissions of other partners."
* **Allow cross-partner communication on in the partner's own experience.** The partner's composer gets the same audience picker. Your team and the partner's own team are always ticked and cannot be unticked, and the other partners are opt-in. The label reads `To <your company>` for your team only, **To 2 of 3 partners**, or **To everyone**. The partner can @-mention the people of the partners its comment goes to.

## Verify it worked

* In [Deals overview](https://app.introw.io/overview/DEAL), a deal with three partners shows **+2** in the **Partner** column and three role lines on its board card.
* In the deal dialog, **Collaborators** lists every partner, and **Open conversation** switches the conversation and tasks.
* A comment sent **To everyone** appears in each partner's portal, and each person gets one email.
* With both settings on in every partner's experience, preview each partner's portal in turn: the deal's **Collaborators** shows the other partners, and the audience picker lists them. A partner whose picker lists no other partners has **Allow cross-partner communication** off in its own experience.

## Limits and what to know

* **Your team is never limited by the embed settings.** You always see every partner, can send one comment to several of them, and can mention their people. The settings only govern what partners see of each other.
* **Restricted users see only their partners.** A teammate limited to certain partners only sees those partners on the deal, and cannot open a deal whose partners are all outside their access.
* **Partners never see roles or commission of other partners**, whatever you turn on.
* **A partner without a portal cannot receive a comment.** It still shows on the deal, but is not offered in the audience picker.
* **Single-partner deals work as before.** Nothing in this guide changes a deal with one partner.
* **No plan add-on.** Multi-partner deals work for every organization with partner attribution.
